Muslim and Usage of Condom  : Recently  All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi has claimed that Muslims men use the condom most in the country. He based his claim on government’s data but surprisingly the data by NFHS suggest contrary.

Rise in Usage of Contraception in India in last 30 years

Like the worldwide, the there is inversely proportion relation between rising population of India and usage of contraception. The wider adoption of contraception measures in India has  led to decrease in fertility rate of Indians. In the year 1992-93, 40 percent women of the country were adopting contraceptive measures. However 30 years later, contraception adoption has increased 1.5 times and reached to 63 percent.

 

Religion-wise Use of Contraception in India (2021)

According to the NFHS-5 (National Family Health Survey) survey released in 2021, the national average of contraceptive use among women aged 15-49 years in the country is 66.7 percent. But among the Muslims of the country, this average is 60.3 percent, which is the lowest not only among religions but all minorities as well.

Even in state-wise data, use of contraceptive measures by Muslims is less than average

Analysis of contraceptive use by community across states shows that Muslim women generally use contraceptives at a lower rate than the state average. However, Goa is an exception, where Muslim women surpass Hindus in contraceptive use.
