2.Breakup of Crime Against Women in India
The majority of cases under crime against women under IPC were registered under ‘Cruelty by Husband or His Relatives’ (31.4%) followed by ‘Kidnapping & Abduction of Women’ (19.2%), ‘Assault on Women with Intent to Outrage her Modesty’ (18.7%), and ‘Rape’ (7.1%).
The crime rate registered per lakh women population was 66.4 in 2022 in comparison with 64.5 in 2021.

3. More than 3.33 lakh Nirbhaya’s suffering the trauma after horrific incident of 16 Dec 2012
Even after 11 years since the tragic Nirbhaya rape and murder case, Indian women continues to grapple with feelings of insecurity both on the streets and in their homes. In 2013, the country recorded 33,707 rape cases, and as of 2022, the annual count remains alarmingly high at 31,516. Even during the challenging year of 2020, amid a nationwide lockdown, India still reported 28,153 cases of rape, highlighting the persistent and concerning issue of sexual violence in the country.

5. Women are more unsafe in Home (Accused were Family Members (7.37 %) vs Accused -Unknown(3.37%)
Women in India are more unsafe within their own homes than streets. NCRB data reveals that in 7.37% of reported cases accused are family members. On the contrary, in only 3.37% of cases, accused are unknown. The number of rape cases against women in home could be far more than reported numbers as most of the time, such cases are not reported.

6. State/UT Rape cases in India (2022)
Rajasthan leads in reporting the highest number of rape cases in India, with 5,399 incidents. Uttar Pradesh follows with 3,690 cases, Madhya Pradesh with 3,029, Maharashtra with 2,904, and Haryana with 1,787, making up the top five states on this distressing chart.
While comparing the any crime category one should look upon the crime rate number. Crime rate is measured as number of cases per lakh population. On that parameter, Uttarakhand tops the chart with crime rate (rape) of 15.4.
Rajasthan follows closely with a rate of 13.8, while Haryana, Delhi, and Chandigarh are states with a double-digit crime rate (rape) in India, standing at 12.7, 12.3, and 13.9, respectively.

7. City Wise Rapes case in India
The statistics on city-wise rape cases in India defy conventional expectations, as Delhi, often associated with a higher incidence of such crimes and called as rape capital of India. Delhi does reports highest number of rapes (1204) among metro cities of India. But when measured on crime rate Jaipur surpasses other cities with crime rate of (34.2), while Indore(16.8) is marginally ahead from Delhi (15.9).
